Vulnerability toward the development of diabetes mellitus type 2 among adults from a rural community of West Bengal, India

Purpose India has over half a million diabetics, with many others at risk. The Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) is simple and validated tool used for mass screening of diabetes mellitus type 2 the community level. This study assessed vulnerability developing in adults rural West Bengal using IDRS finds out relationship risk socioclinical variables. Design/methodology/approach Multi-stage sampling was employed to select one eligible nondiabetic adult from selected families residing field practice area medical college Bengal. They were interviewed predesigned pretested data collection schedule examined. Findings Among 197 participants, 83.8% female, 51.8% illiterate 57.4% came Class IV Prasad's socioeconomic scale. Of 22.8% had existing known morbidities, 23.9% some form substance addiction. In total, 46.8% participants on whom could be applied ( n = 175) high (Score 60). Gender comorbidities significantly predicted diabetes. Originality/value A large proportion population yet diagnosed are having disease.
